What are the Four Spiritual Laws?
1. God loves you and has a plan for your life.
2. In our humanity we cannot fully know God's plan, but God wants to bridge the gap.
3. God sent Jesus to reveal and heal us so that we may know and please God.
4. This healing and restoration happens through personal awareness and decision.
How to Present the Four Spiritual Laws
The “Four Spiritual Laws” booklet is a proven path for introducing people to Jesus Christ. It is not the only way, but it is an effective way. Remember, you’re not convincing someone of anything; you are introducing them to your best friend.
The Four Spiritual Laws booklet is simple and can be used to start a conversation – “Have you heard of the Four Spiritual Laws?” Most will say, “No,” and you have an opportunity to share. If they are interested, begin with the Gospel truth: “God loves you. Did you know that?” Listen to their response and ask if they’d like to hear about God’s plan to have a closer relationship with them.
By using the Four Spiritual Laws booklet you can clearly present a Biblically accurate invitation for anyone to receive Christ. The booklet also contains “next steps” to grow in their faith including the importance of becoming active in a healthy church. Using the booklet gives you a handy tool that builds your own confidence as an effective witness for Christ.
Never force anyone to receive Christ. The Holy Spirit is at work in them already and you are simply a “pencil in the hand of God” as Mother Teresa has said. Let God lead the conversation naturally with the booklet as a guide. Be aware that Satan will try to derail the conversation so gently guide your new friend through the booklet. Stop frequently and ask: “Does that make sense?”
Remember, you’re not selling anything and you’re not at this divine appointment to “seal the deal.” At the end of the booklet there’s a prayer and an opportunity for them to receive Christ. Ask if they’re willing to pray that prayer aloud with you. If not, encourage them to consider the message of salvation in the booklet and maybe ask Christ into their life later or contact you when they’ve had time to consider building a closer relationship with God through Jesus.
May God bless you with many wonderful opportunities to “go fishing” with Jesus!
